EU Court ruling – A step forward for #RainbowFamilies

On Tuesday, the EU Court of Justice made an important landmark ruling that is a step forward for rainbow families in all EU member countries. The court ruled that Bulgaria has to recognise two women as mothers of a child and issue the child a birth certificate. The ruling means that all EU member countries must recognise same-sex parents. This secures the right to #FreeMovement in the EU for rainbow families.

The European Centre-Right LGBT+ Alliance welcomes the ruling and hope that it will inspire EU member countries to reform their national legislation in an LGBT+ inclusive way and to recognise and welcome rainbow families in all countries.

The Alliance also hopes that the decision will serve as an inspiration for countries outside the EU to take necessary steps to protect the rights of rainbow families.
